|for having a match i'n his possession when in the vValls'end riiine, John R. C. Fowler apeeared before Mr W. Meldrum, S.M. yesterday at Greymouth. The mine manager, Mi G. Smith, stated that Fowler had-'bdtm searched' by vne workmen's inspectors, rfhd nothing had been, found on him. He then searched himself and foiind a match. It was not a deliberate offence, and a' heavy penalty was not asked for. The S.M. said that it appeared to be an oversight, and it'was defendant’s Own act which resulted in the match being found. He would take a lenient view and inflict the minihuim fine of £2 with costs 10s. -v ,
