WANGANUI, May 17
Several heavy showers, after the second race to-day rather spoilt prospects for the concluding day of the Wanganui Jockey Club’s winter meeting, though the day’s racing finished in bright sunshine. Rain yesterday had made the track holding and a trifle greasy. The attendance was large, the British Rugby footballers being included among the guests. The totalisator showed a decrease of £4589 on the second day last year £23,524 being handled against £28,113, making a total for the meeting of £46,090 compared with £48,891 10s for the 1929 meeting. An inquiry was held into the running off the Bata Hurdles and it was announced that D. O’Connor, rider of Lin Arlington, had been suspended for one month for crossing. Two horses fell in the Grandstand Steeplechase, but L. Dulieu (Calihe) escaped with light concussion and A. Mcdonnld (Red Bank) was not seriously hurt.
