DOLORES IN COURT
SUMMONS UNDER ALIENS ACT
LONDON, March 28
Dolores, the well-known artists’ model, who once sat for Epstein, appeared at Bow street yesterday. She was summoned under the Aliens Act for not notifying a change in her address. Her name was given as Norine Lattimore. She was described as an American citizen living at Devonshire street, Islington. Dolores arrived at the Court in a taxi with Air Phillip Yale Drew, the actor, a .prominent witness in the Reading shop murder inquest. Air O’Connor on her behalf pleaded not guilty, and added: “She admits she had not notified a change in her address, but she disputes that she is in fact an alien.”
Before the evidence was given Dolores. became very pale and asked for a glass of water. It was brought co her by a police officer. Constable Collins said that when making enquiries about another alien it was found that Dolores was an American citizen, and that she'had failed to notify certain changes of address.
Mr Fry (the Magistrate): What did she say about her nationality?— Nothing, except that she thought her husband was dead.
Mr Fry: Did she tell you who her husband was?—She said she understood he was dead, but had no proof.
At the mention of her husband Dolores toolc several sips of water.
In cross-examination the constable said ho understood her father was an Englishman and she married nn American in 1926. Records showed that he went to Germany in 1927.
In the last two years I daresay yon have seen her name in the papers s great deal ? Her stage name; not her cal name. Air (VConnor said Dolores was born : n Bloomsbury. Two months after her marriage Lattimore said he was not bound to maintain her, as he had « wife living in America. They parted company, and she had not seen him since.
“If this case is fought out it might involve the question of the legality of her manage,” said O’Connor. “If her story is true Lattimore committed bigamy and she never lost her status of a British subject.” Dolores, at the Magistrate’s request, stood up, holding a handkerchief to her, eyes.
Mr Fry: Until you have proved that Lattimore committed bigamy you must notify ns an alien. You musts not give the police any further trouble. Dolores, who was in tears, said: “I am very sorry, sir.” The Magistrate: You will be fined one guinea.
Dolores left the Court arm in arm with Mr Drew.
