CHANNEL TUNNEL
(British Official Wireless) RUGBY, May 13. Replying to questions in the House of Commons, 'the Prime Minister, Mr MacDonald, stated that an enquiry into the military aspects of the Channel Tunnel was taken up 'as soon as the report of the Cornipittee on the economic aspect had been received and it had been ' continuing ever since; The project/ as set 'forth in Hie economic report, contained a considerable amount of detail that was not available when 1 the question was last reviewed by the" Committee of Imperial Defence. It had been found necessary to re-examine the whole matter, in the light of the latest technical developments, and to meet the changed conditions/ new methods had had to be. considered and worked out, both in the military and the financial aspects. It would be a profound mistake to scamp this inquiry, onlv to* fin'd'afterwards'that some essential factor hearing on the final decision had been overlooked. As soon as the recommendations of the Committee of Imperial Defence were, available the whole question, in all of its aspects,' would he examined by the Government, after which an announcement of, the Government s policy would he made in Parliament.
