LONDON, May 14
In, the House of Lords, in committee, on the Coal Bill, Lord Northumberland’s amendment for the omission of the compulsory amalgamation clauses was carried against the Government (by 147 to 2d. Ilis further amendment, placing the power of initiating amalgamations with the Board of Trade instead of the proposed reorganisation commissioners was carried without division. Other amendments , were adopted similarly against the Government. The. discussion ways adjourned.
TALLOW SALES POSTPONED,
LONDON, May 14 The .tallow sales were not held.

At the wool sales, 9204 bales were offered including 438 from New Zealand. Approximately 7580 were sold. There was a limited offering of merinos, excellent supply af crossbreds, with keen tone and active competition. The opening rates were maintained.
