Through death, marriage, and retirement, about 85 teachers retire from the primary school teaching service in Canterbury each year. To make up for them the Education Board appoints 91 probationers. Experience has shown that a few extra teachers must be brought in each year because of the natural increase in population. Again this year the position of unemployed teachers in Canterbury is becoming less acute as the year passes. About six teachers whose engagements were only temporary were placed in permanent positions last month. This is expected to continue till the end of the year, when there should be few teachers in Canterbury without permanent work. The wedding was celebrated at Holy Trinity Church, Greymouth, yesterday morning, by Archdeacon Jermyn, of Miron Ivy, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs A. -Steel, of Blaketpwn, to William Harold, second son of Mr and Mrs J. Guv. of High Street, Greymouth. The bride, who wore an anklek ugtli frock of white georgette and satin, with wreath and veil, entered the church on the arm of her father. She was attended as bridesmaid by Miss Mildred Addison, who 'wore a frock of pale pink georgette and tafteta, with hat to tone. The two flower girls, Zelma Steel and Peggy Guy, wore mauve and apricot crepe-de-chine respectively A reception was held at the, residence of the bride’s parents, and the newly-married couple left later for their home in Cbrist•c.ntrch.
