GELDINGS BARRED.
FROM AUSTRALIAN CLASSICS
SYDNEY, May 14
The Australian Jockey Club and the Victoria Racing Club have jointly decided to debar geldings from competing in the classic events in 1932 and thereafter. The opinion is expressed that by allowing geldings to run in the highly-endowed two-year-old and three-year-old races, an inducement is held out to the owners to geld fin© youngsters without trial, and perhaps before they had reasonable chance to transmit their good qualities to progenv. Thus the primary objective of the clubs to improve the breed of horses is defeated. The now rule does not apply to the present yearlings. Gloaming, Ballymena, Prince Humphrey, Cupidoii and Pharlap* are among the geldings that were successful in past A.J.C. Derbies.
