MINERS’ RECOGNISE POSITION
FACED WITH FINANCIAL CRISIS

Miners’ officials informed aggregate meetings of the Miners’ Federation tnat they would be faced with a financial crisis unless the men resumed work on the November compromise terms. Contributions from other Unions had fallen off to such an extent that food relief payments could not be maintained. The speakers referred to the possibility of a stampede and debacle, with the consequent smashing, up of the Federation.

In moving the second reading of the Industrial Arbitration Amendment Bill, Mr Bavin said the dissolution of this issue would involve a delay of several months in the face of critical, economic' nod industrial conditions which prevailed. The Government did not feel iustified in takine the course which would involve postponing any effective relief for that period. The State was faced with industrial conditions that were unprecedented in its history. A vote on the seeond reading of the forty, four hours Bill will be taken to-night. The Ministry is confident of victory.
