CLIFF COLLAPSES
UPON A MOTOR CAR. (By Telegraph—Prees Association) NAPIER, May 13. The collapse df a section. of the Bluff Hill cliff face, near the. break- . water, soon after, eight o’clock this evening, was the reason for the death? of two-. young people, and for ; the complete destruction of a. new sedan car. The young people killed were: — Glare Rauter, aged about 20 years, the. daughter of Mr S. Rauter, of Napier, and formerly the licensee of the Puketitri Hotel. Douglas W. Barr, about 24 or 25 years of age, of Napier, the son of Mr and Mrs John Barr, of Hastings. A few minutes before the accident the girl joined B'arr in his car at the Girls’ Friendly Society Lodge, where she resided, and they proceeded in the direction of the port. They were travelling about 15 miles an hour when three or four men saw a Ifall of rock almost completely cover the car. Two men soon got Barr out, hut lie was dead. Miss Rauter was released with difficulty, and though terribly injured, she was still alive. She only lived however, for ten minutes. Bare’s injuries were practically confined to the head.
