EDUCATIONAL ADDRESS

WELLINGTON, May 12

The Australian Association of Philosophy and Psychology opened its annual Conference here to-day. Professor W. Anderson, of Auckland University, delivered the presidental address on “The Individual and the Community.” He deprecated the tendency to push th.cj individual aspect in educational -thought tocrunr, and he criticised strongly such catch cries as “discovered aptitudes” and “agricultural bias.”

DRUNKEN DRIVER PENALISED

ROTORUA, May 12

At the Magistrate's Court, before Mr Paterson George Darroch, for being drunk while in charge of a motor vehicle, was fined £2O and his license was cancelled for twelve months. George Daly, for being drunk while in charge of a car and not being the possessor of a license who previously had been fined and prohibited from driving in Auckland, received a- months’ hard labour and was prohibited from driving for five years..

The South Auckland Methodist Synod held their initial session last night- Rev A W. Burley presided. The Mayor, Mr Thomas Jackson,_ and the local clergy welcomed the visitors. The Rev. F J. Parker replied on behalf of the Synod. This is the first conference of the kind held in Rotorua.
