Lady Syke Laurence has been graned a divorce from Captain Colin Maurice, on the grounds of the latter’s misconduct with a woman unknown. ’I he parties lived in New Zealand for sometime after their marriage in. 1920.

EXCAVATIONS AT UR

LONDON, May 12

The excavation of a. low, inconspicuous mount at Ur during the last ten days, before the closing of the season’s work, revealed a temple built by Ncibuchanezzar in GOO B.C. Apparently the land was reclaimed from the old harbour as the foundations have sunk and the walls on one side are aslant. The temple is surprisingly preserved, mud brick walls retaining the plaster and white wash although the decorations have vanished. The building which at present is' twenty feet each way, was originally lofty.

Overseas trade returns for April are the worst for several years. Imports totalled £33,992,000, which is £9,498,000 less than March and £20,208,000 jess than last April. Exports were £46.861,003, which are £7,084,000 less than March and £13,382,000 less than last April. The principal decreases of imports are grain and flour £3,186,000, food and drink, non-dutiable, £3,263,000, dutiable £1,055,003, raw cotton £3 ; - 100,000, raw wool £4,602,000, oil seeds £1,077,000. ' .Exports, iron and steel manufactures £1,023,000, cotton yarns manufactures £4,248,000, re-exports raw wool £1,140.000.
