SHANGHAI, May 12.
The Northern .rebel coalition claims it has annihilated:'a division of Nanking troops. The 'latter denies a dc- • feat, and declares the main armies have not yet clashed. < Peking papers report Chengchow was. heavily hombcd-and fifty civilians were killed and hundreds of houses demolished by Government aeroplanes. Fighting on a small scale is occurring in.the provinces of Honan, Anhjvei and Shantung. The situation is regarded as serious though the Government is confident of ultimate victory.
