MR POLSON’S ATTACK

RESENTMENT IN MARLBOROUGH

BLENHEIM, May 8

Mr W. J. Poison’s forthcoming visit to Blenheim was discussed at a meeting of the Marlborough Progress League. Mr Alex Thomson expressed indignation at Mr Poison’s southern campaign against the railway, and his use of such grossly inaccurate figures, which, ho said,. must have misled many people

Other. members spoke in the same strain, and Mr W. J. Girling moved: •‘That, the' League expresses its regret at the misstatements made by/Mr Poison in regard to the line, and requests Mr Churchward to attend his meeting and question him in regard to his figures.” The motion was carried and Mr Churchward accepted the appointment, subject to the Farmers’ Union agreeing to his being present at the meeting. In its determination to push the construction of the railway, the League recently inspected the works in progress at the Marlborough end of the project, and made the suggestion that the Canterbury Progress League should keep nn eye upon the prosecution of work at the southern end. The Canterbury League has fallen in with the suggestion and the visit will probably take place on May 21st. The Marlborough League decided to send a party to join the Canterbury visitors in the vicinity of Parnassus. __
