REGIONAL -PLANNING

HAMILTON, May 9
• Although the majority attended as confirmed opponents of regional planning the fifty delegates from territory stretching from Rotorua to Taumarunui were mostly converted to a scheme after hearing Mr Mawson, Director of Town Planning propound a scheme at Hamilton yesterday where the committee sat to take evidence. A majority of the speeches admitted their opposition had been founded on ignorance and deplored the fact that better knowledge of the proposals was not held iby members of the local bodies.
Several speakers expressed the opinion that if the scheme had been put into operation two years ago, New Zealand would have been saved an amount of money it would be difficult to estimate.
DENTAL SURGERY TRAGEDY
AUCKLAND, May 9. While having an anaesthetic administered to him • prior to having teetli extracted; H. W. Reynolds, married, aged 35, collapsed and died in a dental srgery at Auckland this morning. An inquest was opened before Mr' F. Tv. Hunt. After evidence of identifiication had been given, it was adjourned until Monday. Deceased was a prominent member of the College Rifles, Football Club, of which he was Vice President. He was Chief Clerk in the London and Liverpool and Globe Insurance- Coy., having bee nconnected with the company for fourteen years. He ,is survived by bus widow.
MOTOR SHIP DISABLED
GISBORNE, May 10.
A message was received this morning to the effect that the motor ship Margaret W. has anchored two miles
south of East Cape with engine trouble. The tug Pelican was despatched to assist, but it. is not yet known whethei the motor ship will he towed to Gisborne or Auckland for repairs. Thu steamer Hikurangi is to replace -the Margaret W. in the coastwise service pending repairs.
BANKRUPT'S ROOKS

At the Supreme Court, the trial ot Claence William- Bruce, of Auckland a builder, on a charge of wilfully tailing to keep proper hooks loi three years before his bankruptcy, with intent to conceal. An alterof affairs, was < concluded. Ail alter(..na£iv,e count was that the accused had failed to keep proper books. Accused failed, with liabilities of £2B- - ' His assets were given' as £28,160.
A verdict of guilty of wilful failure to keep proper books, was returned; Sentence was deferred. Accused’s counsel gave notice bat lie would ask for a re-trial.
CZECITO-SLOV \ K CONSUL. WELLINGTON, May 8. The' appointment of Alfred Wyness as Acting H,M. Czechoslovak Consul at Wellington is gazetted to-night.
