ECONOMICAL WORK ON HIJRUNUI BRIDGE.

Tlie concrete bridge over the Hnrumii Diver on the boundaries of Cheviot and'Waipara counties is nearly completed. It was estimated to cost £L7,GOO. and this amount was allocated between the Main Highways Board and several local authorities according to proportions determined by a commission/
The local bodies who have raised funds for this work will receive a pleasant surprise when the bridge is completed, because the Public Works Department’s officers who carried it out have expended about £SOOO less than was expected.
