CARS COLLIDE

ONE MAN KILLED.,

HA Ail ETON, Alay 9.

Two were injured, one fatally, in a head on collision between two cars which took place on Mamilton-Alor-riiwville road near Newstead, four miles from Hamilton about 10 o’clock last night.

The victims arc:—Killed, Thomas B Slniw, 23, son of David Slurv, farmer, of Tauwliare. The injured are:—Winifred Randle, aged 19, daughter of P. Randle, assistant manager of Alatangi glaxo factory. fractured skull and head injuries, condition serious.

The car was driven by H. Shaw, of Tauwliare. cousin of deceased, and occupied by T. Brown, Miss Randle and deceased. Going in the direction of Hamilton they collided head on with a car driven hv 1,. H. Alonteith, farmer of Eureka, who was accompanied bv his brother, A. F. Alonteith. The Monteiths are members of the Afarist .senior Rugby team of Hamilton and were returning from a football practice. Miss Randle and T. Shaw suffered shocking iicad injuries from which the latter succumbed at 3.30 this morning. Aliss Randle sustained a severe fracture at the ,basc of (the skull 'and: extensive head - injuries Her condition is grave Both yars were extensively damaged.

Deceased and Aliss Randle were in the hack seat.* In view of the tangled wreckage, the other occupants of the cars miraculous escapes. Apart from minor bruises, scratches and shock none of the others wei’e hurt. The night was foggy and Air Shaw is said to have (been dazzled by the headlights of the approaching ear.
