CHRISTCHURCH, May 9

Prisoners sentenced at the Supreme Court wereßonald Brown, Albert •Tames, William Grennell, and Raymond George Milton Caesar, all youths employed as stable hands, for rape, to five years imprisonment. The Crown said the crime was the verv worst in its class.

Arthur Smith, 39, formerly an hotelkeeper at/Lyttleton for false pretences to come up for sentence when called on, o)i consideration that he made full restitution.

Gadeson Scott for selling liqour illegally at Ashburton, to six months’ gaol. It was his twelfth offence.
