BRITAIN & SOVIET

DIPLOMATIC PRIVILEGES,

, Lin ted Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.]

LONDON, Afoy 67 I

In the House of Lords, Lord Newton inquired why the Government was giving diplomatic privileges and immunities to the Soviet trade representatives in London and to their premises, though these were withheld in other parts of the Empire. Lord Ponsonby, in reply, stated that there was nothing new in the AngloSoviet trade agreement. Partial diplomatic immunity , was granted in the trade agreement in 1921,- even before the recognition of the Soviet Government. He deprecated this continual suspicion of a Foreign Government which we had recognised. Lord Brentford declared that the Government had apparently not benefited by the . lessons of the Soviet’s actions in the past.
