CORRESPONDENCE.

IN SYMPATHY

(To the Editor.) J# Sir,—No one could read of the dreadful experience of that young wedding couple at Greymouth, as described by Mr Hayward, without some showing of their feelings. I had not known there was a Colin Howat or a Miss Roxborough, this to their credit, for are not the best people those least in the, public eye, but when I read about them, and pictured what an experience for a wedding night, the beginning of a- new life for a young couple, I hope they are young, and thought of them having lost ; their little fineries, in pain, and running up a hill at the Hospital, I felt like, I suppose, everyone else, full of sympathy, and I thought how much is your sympathy. , worth? To my own part it would be anyway equal to a month’s cigarettes, if I smoked, or a month’s beer, if I drank. But these people are not ob- \ jects of charity, and God forbid that I should imply anything in -that direction, but; there.is no reason why we Should not show our sympathy by giving them a thumping wallet as a community wedding present, and towards contribute the enclosed couple of pounds in the hope that others will join and show them this dark cloud has a SILVER LINING.
