Perhaps the most important development so far made in connection with the manufacture of tobacco is the discovery by scientists that the toasting of the leaf helps most materially to eliminate the nicotine contained in it. Nicotine is so deadly a poison that a drop or two may cause death. It will thus be seen that tobacco very rich in nicotine —as practically all the imported brands are—is positively unsafe if constantly srpoked. Absorbed day after day into the system it will, sooner or later, affect heart, nerves, throat, eyesight. In this connection it is inte”esting to note that our beautiful New Zealand tobaccos —Riverhead Gold ; Cavendish, Navy Cut and Out Plug No. 10 all are toasted and thus freed from nicotine they are rendered absolutely innocuous. Smoke them all the year round (and all day long if you like) and they’ll do you no harm. Note the names of the brands because these are the only toasted tobaccos on the New Zealand market. But look out for imitations I —Advt.
