Regarding the cable message from Sydney stating that the Managing Director of Amalgamated Wireless wu* hoping to establish a radio-telephone service between Australia and New Zealand, the Prime Minister. stated to-day that the Government in New Zealand; had been in communication with- the Australian postal authorities since September last, and that negotiations had . been almost • completed for 'the .■introduction of-a radio telephone service; between Wellington and Sydney • ■;
Most of the material is ready at band. , The balance is .expected within the next two months.
Sir Joseph Ward s ( aid that it was hoped : that .this telephone service would he of great assistance to business men in New Zealand, as it would enable any business man connected with the telephone in Wellington, and p rhaps, elsewhere, to communicate with any businss man in Sydney. It was hoped, he said, that later on those who wished to communicate with London could be switched through at Sydney to the telephone service, which was opened the other day.
