The Council of the above Society met at the County Cham hers at 7.35 p.m. Present: Messrs A. N. Baker (Chair), E. J. Lloyd, S. Godfrey, J. King, A. C. Armstrong, H. Wells, W. Braddon, and D. ./. Evans. Apologies were received for the absence ol"J)r Teicheimann, and -Messrs J. J. Melntosh and G. Perry. The 'minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed, and the outward correspondence approved.

From Internal Affairs Department forwarding Gazette notice covering shooting season for Westland, opened that- day.—Received. The Secretary stated that as private enterprise and the Society were seeking to establish pheasants in the district those issuing licenses had been asked to strike out of the license permission to take pheasants meantime-, and it was expected ' sportsmen would respect that request, as it was in their interests to see the birds thoroughly establish-

ed now a definite move was being made in that direction. The action was approved, members , agreeing, that for the present cock pheasants should enjoy the fullest protection.

Mr Braddon referred • to. a suggestion which had been made regardmr the stocking,of Lake Mapourika with rainlvAv'front, and the Secretary was l' to communicate with the Tourist Department regarding the supply of free ova which the Society would undertake to hatch and liberate.

Mr Armstrong on behalf of the tTateherv Committee, reported the Curator’s residence had been completed, and the Curator commenced the sea.’« duties +lmt day. A very convenient dwelling had (been erected. The Secretary reported a fire insurance policy of £2OO had been applied for on the building.
