FERRY COLLISION
(Australian Press Association)
'SYDNEY, April 30
The ferry steamer Curlcurl struck the Kiandra nearly amidships when the vessels were half-way between the wharf and Port Maequarrie. Both were travelling slowly. The Curlcurl was outward bound and the Kiandra was coming in from Mosman, blit the big steel Manly boat crashed through the side of the smaller wooden ship, and the Curlcurl had her own stern slightly bent, while pieces of timber from the Kiandra became embedded in a. hole in the other’s bow plating. Forunately there were only a few passengers aboard either vessel. Some of those on the Kiandra scrambled up a ladder to the Curlcurl’s deck while the ships were locked momentarily .together. When they got free, the Kiandra limped to' the wharf and disembarked the balance of her passengers. She was then leaking badly, and was towed away for repairs. The Curlcurl was also withdrawn temporarily for the same purpose.
