WELLINGTON, April 29,
The work of the commission appointed by the Government to investigate any cases of hardship arising out of the imposition of the super tax is expected to be completed bv the end of the current week. Given an entirely free hand- by the Government, the commission has now considered and finally disposed of 585 cases. The committee has remissions totalling approximately £IOO,OOO. In all cases its decisions have been accepted by the Government. The commission consists of Mr W. G. Riddell (chairman), formerly senior Magistrate in Wellington, and Messrs D. G. Clark and A. 1C Fowler, both of whom have previously occupied the position of Commissioner of Taxes. Mr Clark was the nominee of the Government, and Air Fowler represented the farming community. To-morrow the commission will make a start with the drafting of its report, which, in view of the nature of the order of reference, may be a more or less formal document. It is anticipated that the- commission wil bring its work to a close by the end of the week.
