LONDON, April 29
A statement- issued by the India Office, reveals that during the Peshawar disturbances the conduct of two platoons, of the 18th Royal Garhwal Rifles was unsatisiacory. The battalion lias accordingly been transferred to Abbottabad, where, an inquiry is being held.
A PARIS TRAGEDY
PARIS, April 29
As Madame Albize, aged twenty, had not been seen for some days her mother went to her fiat and was horrified to find her mangled body concealed in a cupboard, the legs .severed and separately wrapped. There was no sign of a struggle or blood. No trace has been found of her husband.
HUSBAND SUICIDES. PARIS, April 29
The husband’s body was discovered in Acheros Woods with the throat cut. In a letter to his parents-in-law he stated:—“My wife betrayed me. I cannot bear it. 1 will kill her and commit suicide.”
HOUSE OF LORDS LONDON, April 29
The House of Lords gave an ovation to the Lord Chancellor after his first big speech in the Chamber, when he spoke for an hour without notes. He declared he had not changed his mind and was still convinced nationalisation was the only solution of tin difficulties, but he supported the bill because a member ofi the minority Government, which was not entitled to introduce such a sweeping measure as nationalisation, for which he believed there would be a majority in the near future. The right of the House to reject the Rill was not disputed, hut wisdom probably will persuade members not to throw it out without submitting an alternative. He believed the House desired to act as a great advisory council to the nation.
