“TOTE TICKETS STOLEN”
MAGISTRATE’S STRONG COMMENT.
WHANGAREI, April 28
On the first dqy of the Whangarei races, William Bain had two five-pound tickets on Maori Boy, winner of the M’lnnes Handicap. Ho did not cash the tickets. The following day he Was in the company of William Archibald M’Millan, of Hikurangi, an old acquaintance. During the afternon Bain missed the tickets and informed the police. On the second day of the races one of the tickets was presented at a late dividend window by a man, who said M’Millan had offered him £2 to cash it. M’Millan was to-day charged in Court with attempting to steal £l2 15s, the property of William Bain. He was fined £2. The Magistrate commented strongly on the action of M’Millan In Sending another man to cash the tickets instead of doing so himself, thus allowing an innocent person to bo placed in the position of wrongdoer.
