WELLINGTON’S SILVER, LINING.
While the country> g(j.erally has experienced a very quiet time in industry and business' during the 192930 period, the City of Wellington has established tv neiv ‘record in building activity. THe value :: of the new buildings erected during? was £929,OuJ. Since then the figure, with very slight fluctuations, has risen to £2,033,137 for the 1929-30 period. Another point to be noted is that for the last five. years the figure has been round about the two million mark. “No other city in New Zealand,” said the Mayor in an address to the Chamber of Commerce Conf° ,-n nee “can claim such a record,, which goes toi show the confidence »of business menf and citizens generally ! in the future of their city.”
