NEW PLYMOUTH, April 28
A .new coal mining, company,, to fjo ■known, as. Mokau ; G9Jli.ori.es,, has been formed, and it is expected to supply cheaper coal to New -Plymouth than lias been,, available in Easy access and cheap- transport; by' navigable river and ,sbii ; .are. important, fat tors. The coal- fields are so situated that some thousands- of -tons-may b* >von, from level free operations. .The trial is suited foffhhnsehold as;.well a,> for steam-raising purposes. The cost of winning the. coal has beem.fixed..-by experts at not more than 10s per ton, excluding royalty of Is 3d per ton. Negotiations are on foot to supply dairy factories with coal at cheaper rates.
The geologist’s report says that even if the seam should he only oft thick there should lie 5,300,000 toils of coal present in the block alone.
