STRANGE CURRENT

SYDNEY, April 28
Captain Seiicll, of the Maunganui, reports that the temperature of the sea rose steadily as the Maunganui approached the Australian coast. The last recording Avas seventy-four degrees. Another unusual oecAirrence, be stated, was that tbe liner encountered a set iu the current of three point one knots to the east, thus impeding the progress of the A'essel, Ai'hich between noon yesterday and eight a.m. to-day avus 65 miles beyond the distance logged. Wind Avas from the south. Captain Sewell said that the strongest set that he previously had experienced approaching Sydney , from Noav Zealand Avas one knot only.
The same phenomena Avas met by the liner Aorangi. Avhich arrii-ed on Friday from Auckland. Tavo stowaways, Australians, who Avere aboard the Maunganui, were handed to the police.
