The opening day of the Grey mouth Jockey Club’s autumn meeting was favoured with ideal weather conditions. The track was in good order and the times recorded were good. The racing was full of interest and some close finishes were witnessed. The tote handled £8,311 against £9,682 for the corresponding day last year, being a decrease of £1371. Results:
Novice Slakes:—(l) Giggleswick 1, (2) Arrowmaid 2. (5) Eaton Hall 3. Also ran : Seventh Heaven, Glenmark, Lady Mid, Mata a. Won by two lengths. Time 1.9 1-5. Stewards’ Handicap:—(l) Smithereens 1, (2) Courllike 2, (4) Flying Shot 3. Also started : Rina Mangu, Caliliurii. Won by two lengths. Time j. 25 1-5.
Mawbera Trot Handicap:—(4) Tenedos 1, (3) Allanora 2, (8) Denver Hinds 3 Also ran:—Shining Light, Lady Zora, Golden Bond, Galindo Rose, Pat Logan, Guy Denver (coupled with Allanora), Yican, Y r al Logan. Won by three lengths. Time 3.18. Hannan Memorial Handicap:—(44 Fairy Tidings I, (2) Gold Bag 2, (P Haze 3. Also ran : Quarterdeck and Gold Mint. Quarterdeck fell and R. C'oveney (the rider), sustained injuries which necessitated his removal to the Greymouth Hospital. Won by three lengths. Time 2.10 3-5. Flying Handicap:—(4) The Dove 1, (3) Giggleswick 2, (2) Saggitarius 3. Also ran: Tariff, Quillfire, Grand Acre. Won by three-quarters of a length. Tune 1.9 3-5.

AUCKLAND, April 26
The Avondale Jockey Club’s autumn meeting commenced to-day in tine 'vvdathcr. The tote took £42,099 compared Avitli £44,007 oil the first day last year.

PHAR LAP’S RECORD

Delightful weather favoured the A..1.C. for the concluding day of its autumn meeting at Randwick on Sat•urthyv- The track was in excellent order. The attendance was thirty-sev-en thousand.
.Phar Lap furthei' demonstrated his galloping ability by winning the A.J.O Plate on the bit, and in doing so he clipped one second off the Australian record and 6j- seconds from the race record. At one stage he was a furlong in front.
Rous Handicap, Ist. division: Adrian's March 1, Goshawk 2, Clear flight 3. JSecond division:—Theban 1, Vertey 2, Parkwood 3. Won by two lengths. Time 1.251. Danger Handicap:—Sir Roy 1, Solution 2, Sir Ribble 3. Won by a length. Time 2.31.
Second Steeplechase:—Namera 1, Samphire 2, Papegai 3. Won by five lengths. Time 6.26 L Eernhill Handicap:—Tom Pinch 1. Uriah Heep 2, Homedale 3. Won by two lengths. Time 1.25 A.J.C. Plate:—Phar Lap 1, Nightmarch 2, Donald 3. These were the only starters. Phar Lap ran smartly to the front and thereafter was in front all the way. Time 3. 491. Filial Handicap : —Rawnaglas 1 Ravalli 2, Lorason 3. Won by a length. Time 2.3 J.

At the yearling sales the New Zealander, H. Mtirnhy. paid 110 guineas for a Roger de R-usli colt. A Romo-Ladv Kerman colt was offered on account of Hie Aucklander Hon. Alison, and was passed at eighty. A Mil nf reel-Fra nees Tressadv filly was bought by the Warwick Farm trainer, H Andrews, for 650 guineas.
