A MOTORIST’S ORDEAL
PINNED UNDER CAR WITH DEAD .COMRADE.
PALMERSTON N. April 27
To he pinned or twelve hours under an overturned car with his dead companion beside him was the terrible experience of Len Simpson, a Public Yl orks employee of Tawa Flat, whose car capsized over a bank near Shannon at 6.30 p.m. on Sunday, Ihe car turned a complete somersault and the passenger, Horace Banks, was ki-led Instantly. Simpson .was jammed between the front seat and the steering wheel and with one arm behind his back, was unable to free himself. In this precarious position he remained for twelve hours, making desperate efforts to open the door to extricate himself. After hours of struggling he succeeded and between six and seven o’clock this morning, almost exhausted, he managed to crawl out and was found by the driver of a service car. He was suffering from a broken thigh and head injuries, which may include a fractured skull.
