ARREST OF LEADERS

DELHI, April 17

Fierce rioting has occurred at Karachi. It was during the trial of six Nationalists and Congress leaders, who were charged with a violation of Salt Tax Laws.

A general strike of the scavengers and dock workers at Karachi has been proclaimed as a protest against the trial of the Nationalist leaders. The situation in the city ot Calcutta is now under control. Strong forces of armed mounted police are patrolling the Calcutta streets in the Indian quarter.

The police were stoned in Poona by a crowd of demonstrators against the conviction of M. Nehru, the Nationalist Congress Leader. LONDON, April 17.

It is understood that, in view of the situation in India, the Simon Commission is its report, which is most likely to be'unanimous, enabling the political parties to unite in backing the recommendation.
