Unemployment is no new thing, nor has Labour any promising panacea for its elimination. The experience of Mr J. H. Thomas, Minister for Uneinplovment in the Labour Government at Home, has been instructive. Speakinfi recently at the London School of Economics on the world aspect of -unemployment he quoted statistics indicating that the, number of unemploved in the. United States was nearer five million 1 than four million, that Germany, at the end of last year had an unemployed army of three million, while the number of unemployed in' Ttaly was a million, as compared witih a million and a-lialf in Great Britain. —Otago Times,
