WEST COAST RUGBY UNION.

The weekly,, meeting of the West Coast Rugby Union was held last evening at Greymouth. It v. r io decided to rescind the motion to open the season on April 19th, ow'ing to tlie game in view with Varsity. The Secretary’s action in arranging the match for April 19th was endorsed, and it was decided to defer fixtures to May 3rd. Westland Suib-Uiiion advised that they were agreeable to hold a West Coast R.ugby meeting at Hokitika and suggested April 23rd as a suitable date. Mr Ryan moved that as Aprii 23rd was an unsuitable date, April 30th he submitted provided the President had returned. It was agreed upon.

Cobden Club made application for a junior fixture with lkainatua as a curtain raiser to Varsity v. West Coast on Saturday at Victoria Park. 'The application was granted. Inangahua Sub-Union wrote asking that a list s of disqualified Rugby players be forwarded. The matter was left to the seoretai-y to refer to New Zealand Union. A letter from the Grey Trotting

Club detailed proposals re the Rugby playing area at Victoria Park, as to which the Union had asked for a fixed rental and for the club to meet the full charge for gatekeepers instead of the old proposition. The letter stated that the matters had been considered by the Grounds Com.mitt.ee, and that the proposed reduction of charge in the face of the. Club’s financial position would he impossible at present. It has boon decided however, to agree to let the ground at a fixed fee of £l5O for /this season, .instead of the $l5O minimum previously arranged. This rental would include all matches other than the forthcoming English match, for which usual percentage would he charged and of this amount one half of the cluib’s share will be rebated to the union. If the fixed rental were agreed upon the union would make its own arrangements for gatekeepers; the Trotting Club making appointments and paying its proportion from the English match as hitherto. The use of the Park under the altered agreement would be on same general conditions as hitherto, and the Trotting Club reserved the right to resume the park for any purposes whatever on Hot more than four Saturdays during the season or giving the Rugby Union fourteen days’ notice -of this intention. The letter asked for an early decision. The matter was held over, members

The admission charges to Saturday’s Rep. match Christchurch Varsity v. West Coast was fixed at 2s and Is. Various mcnnuers offered their private cars to take the visiting team for a trip on Sunday. Mr I. Steel was appointed manager of the Coast Loam, which will assemble at tlie Park Hotel at 2.15 p.in.., match to start at 3 p.m. Mr J. Kay was appointed timekeeper and Air W. Williams w

appointed referee for the represen tative match and Air A. Jamieson to the curtain raiser, which will com mence at 1.30 p.m. on the A. ground i.f the weather is favourable and i not on tbe B ground.
