MAN ASSAULTS SOLICITOR.
WELLINGTON, April 12
As Augustus James West-Walker, partner in tlfe legal firm of E : gley and West-Walker, was walking home from church in Karori last Sunday morning, he was attacked by Vincent Henry Fama (not Farmer, as previously telegraphed), refrigerating engineer, who a pare nt ly had a grudge against the solicitor because of his actions regarding a debt incurred by Fama to a grocery firm. The outcome of this was that proceedings were taken against Fama for assault. When the case was first called in the morning the defendant asked that it be struck out on the ground that the summons was unstamped, but,the Magistrate (Mr E. Page) held that everything was in order. Alter hearing evidence on both sides, the Magistrate said that it appeared that defendant had been worried in his financial operations, and because WestWalker was endeavouring over several Years to collect an account, Fama apparently became, incensed and sought an opportunity to assault the solicitor. “I think you were quite unjustified in assaulting the solicitor in thi*way,” said Mr Page to defendant. “He seems to have acted in a normal way.’ Fama was ordered to enter into a bond lor £25 for twelve months to he of god behaviour, and in particular to keep the peace towards West-Walker.
