PRISONERS’ PROTEST

TO THEFT FROAI CHURCH

AUCKLAND, April 14

At the instance of Rev. Jasper Calder, prisoners at the Church of England service at Alt. Eden gaol on Sunday passed a resolution protesting against the theft from St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral at Dunedin last week, when two chalices, six bottles of wine and other articles were stolen.

“Now boys, I have a brain wave,” said Calder. “You and I between us, might get the sacred vessels back. Suppose we send a resolution of protest to Dunedin papers showing that 3-50 prisoners thought this theft was not cricket, ‘considering what the Church has done and is doing. It b rather like biting a hand flint feeds you. Don’t you agee. It was resolved that this congregation of prisoners heartily protest® aganist the theft- of sacred ' vessels from the House of God and urges the thief to restore the chalices immediately.
