KIRK-WINDEYER CUP

N.SAV. TEAM AT WELLINGTON

WELLINGTON, April B.’

Tbe New South Wales team, which will play Victoria at Shirley early next week for the honour of playing New Zealand for the ICirk-Windeyer Cup on April 16th and 17th, arrived from Syd ney by the Maunganui to-day. Th team,’ which is in charge of Dr. Sydney'P Jones, captain and manager consists of Dr. H, K. Lee Brown, W Dobson, S. H. Keane, and H. W. Hatter sley. “We have not brought along the 010 stagers this time,” said Dr Jones. ”1 do not suppose I will play, but I may do so if any of the team goes off colour The team is representative of the younger school o'f go!! in Sydney, tlieii ages»ranging from 21 to 32 f not including myself. We have come over to retain the Ivirk-Windeyer Cup, and hope to do iso. We have held it for two years. As manager of the team, I may say that I think that two or three of the team are certain to represent New South Wales for many years. Hattersley is one of the three longest drivers in the world; he can give Walter Hagen about thirty yards. This was proved when he played him in Sydney. Hattersley. and his partner had against them Hagen and Ivo Whitton, open champion of Australia, in a four ball. They lost only by a narrow margin, and Hagen’s and Hattersley’s cards were the same 72. <

“After the cup matches some of the team may go up to Auckland and to Rotorua, while others may return direct from Wellington, according to their personal arrangements. So soon as the matches are finished they will do as they like, but I am in charge until then.”

On arrival the team was met by the secretary of the New Zealand Golf Association (Mr G. 0. Sutton), the chairman of the Association (Sir Alexander Roberts), Messrs A. D. S. Duncan, and M. J. C'rombie, members of the Golf Council, and Mr J. B. Macowan, exmember of the Council. Dr. Jones formally handed over the cup to Mr Sutton.
