CANBERRA, April 10,

The Federal Public Works Committee recommends an expenditure of £40,000 towards the improvement ol one Mascot aerodrome, to make it worthy of the City of Sydney.

The Government's itliirco Referendum bills, providing (I) for complete power to amend the Constitution; (2) for power to control industrial/affairs, and (3) for control over trade and commerce, all passed their second reading to-day in the House.

West Australian and Tasmanian members declared there was no hope whatever of the first proposal, giving tlie Federal Parliament power to alter the constitution at will, being carried. They said electors were not prepared to allow the Federal Government to •uynainilc” the constitution. Rather would West Australia and Tasmania prefer that the Federal Parliament be abolished.
