SAFETY DEVICE
|i’OU. RAILWAY WAGGONS.
(By Telegraph—Press Association)
DUNEDIN, April 1).
At a meeting of the Otago Branch of A.S.R.S. the new hand grip on railway waggons was commented upon. Some months ago Mr R, M. Ferguson of South Dunedin, submitted for the Board’s inspection a model of a new type of hand grip to he placed on the railway waggons. The invention allowed the Tarpaulin to slip down behind the grip, which was thus clear for instant use, the old type of grip being covered up and not available for use when the waggons were sheeted. At the time the members thought the idea an excellent one. Mr Ferguson has since submitted his invention to the Railway Department, and it is now noted with satisfaction that the Department is fitting the new grip to all of the waggons coming out of the shops. The shunters, guards and all concerned express the utmostsatisfaction with the new device, and hope the Department recognises the value of it when treating with Mr Ferguson for its use.
