A conference was held at tfe Borour Chambers, Greymouth, to-day, relative to town planning ' proposals, with the object of fixing a regional area for the West Coast. In the absence of the Director of Town,) Planning (Mr Marsden) Mr Bogle ! of the Surveyors’ Institute, a member of the Board presided. . Delegates from the 1 local bodies were present representing the Inangahua, Grey, and Westland h Counties and interior boroughs. Those present from the south were Messrs Perry and Coles (Hokitika Borough), Evans (Westland County), Houston (Hokitika Harbour). The Mayor of Greymouth (Mr Greenslade) welcomed the members of the Town Planning Board and the visiting delegates. The Chairman explained the provisions of the Town Planning Act referring to regional planning at considerable length, and stated it wals desired a • regional area be agreed to and a committee set up which could prepare plans of the area, setting out its economic features, and the information would be‘useful from .a developmental point of view, lit was pointed out that in. regard to, a geological ■survey, a. fprbiit and land survey, the information so far as affecting 'Westland was available already. A discussion ensued , as to .. districts. The Westland delegates. favoured • the County area being the regional planning area. The Chairman said, it was thought Greymouth should be .the centre for one district and 1 Westport for another. A general discussion ensued. Finally the meeting affirmed the creating of a regional planning committee. The question of .boundaries was left open, it *being optional for the local bodies to submit their views to the Town Planning Board at Wei- ’ lington, which boclv would submit the proposed subdivision of ’ the ‘ West Coast to the local bodies for final adoption. The general opinion finally expressed on which there appeared to * be most agreement, was that there should be one regional district for the West Coast with boundaries similar to those governing the Highways district.
