The fine weather of the past few weeks has enabled bowlers to continue practice on a green that at present is as fast as it has been at any part of the year. There was a large attendance at Princess Theatre last evening when the Muncipal Band gave a popular concert in aid of the Obstetrical Chair funds. The band, under Conductor Ross, gave a number of capital selections, while solos were rendered by Miss Ann Duff, Miss M Jones and Mr and Mrs A. Perry. Recalls were demanded and given in each instance. Miss M. Giese ably supplied the accompaniments. Mr H. M. Coulson returned thanks on behalf of the committee, expressing appreciation at the efforts of the Band, and the soloists associated with the programme, which all present had thoroughly enjoyed. The collection at the door amounted to over £lO.

A serious accident occurred at Owen on Monday night, says the Murchison “Standard” when Mr Rodlev, plumber of Nelson, received very serious injuries, either I'rom jumping or falling out of an upstairs window. It is said that Mr Rodlev was very nervous of earthquakes and at about mid-night a fairly severe shock was felt, and it is thought that the unfortunate man, overlooking the fact that he was upstairs, rushed to the window to get out. He was in his night attire when found, a little after daybreak on Tuesday morning. Word was immediately sent to Murchison to Dr Todd, who went out to attend to him. He was taken to the Nelson Hospital in an unconscious condition and latest reports ■state there is little improvement in his condition.
