THE UNEMPLOYED

WELLINGTON, April 4

Hon. Mr Taverner yesterday received from the Minister of Public Works, Mr Ramson, a telegram stating he had that day received an interim report from an officer of the Department, who is investigating the employment position in Dunedin, and as a result, had instructed the - officer, before he leaves Dunedin, to place fifty additional men on the present relief works there. Mr Ransom added the matter would he further gone into on the receipt of the officer’s full report.

BODY FOUND ON BEACH

WET LING TON, April 4

A body was found on the beach at Muritai this Afternoon. It is apparently that of a man of between 60 and 70 years of age. It is at present unidentified.

EMPIRE PRESS CONFERENCE

AUCKLAND, April 3

The New Zealand delegates to the Empire Press Conference in London will arrive in Auckland this week-end preparatory to their departure for England by the Niagara on Tuesday. The delegates will be guests of the Auckland committee of the Empire Press Union during their stay, and arrangements have been made for their entertainment. On Monday, after a luncheon which will, be given by the local committee, the delegates will be motored through the „pity :a.nd suburbs. WELLINGTON, April . 5

A mother had a child of two sitting on her knee. He touched a hot metal teapot with his bare arm and though the burn healed rapidly, the arm swelled. The child .had a fit and died. At the inquest medical evidence was that toxiemia developed from the burn.
