FOOTBALL

THE RUGpY GAME. TEST TRIAL MATCHES. Tlio British Rugby team for New Zealand will leave England by the Rangitata on April 11, and’’is due to arrive in Welington about May 14, by which time dub football in' the Dominion should be well under way. It is proposed that the trials to find New Zealand’s test team shall be commenced on the day the British team is due to reach Wellington, 'bait there is a possibility of the arrangement regarding trial matches being reviewed, along with other matters connected with the British team’s tour, when the annual meeting of delegates to the New Zealand Rugby Union takes place -on April 10. The plan of campaign which the Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union has mapped out for the purpose of finding New Zealand’s best talent includes the playing of the following trial matches:—May 14, North Island Possibles v Probables, at Palmerston North; May 28, South Island Possibles v Probables, at Christchurch ; June 11, New Zealand Possibles v. Probables, at Wellington. The First Test will be played on june 21, at Dunedin. v

With all the British team’s matches, the usual big list of interprovincial fixtures (including Ranfurley Shield games), the trials, the inter-island match (if it takes place this year), and the dub and other games, the coming season promises to be one of the heaviest on record, The calls upon the players will 'be many and this is a matter which will require very careful consideration, It is very desirable that for the Tests New Zealand should have its strongest side, and to this end arrangements should be made so that the who are required will not bo affected in the matter of getting leave to take part in the important engagements.
