MALTESE ELECTIONS

The clerical representatives in the Senate of Malta moved a resolution condemning the Government’s conduct as harmful to the spiritual interests of the Maltese people, and as tending to weaken their respect anil obedience to the ecclesiastical authorities, and as impairing the authority <>t the Bishops. Signor Bawtolo, replying asked for a week’s adjournment in order to rebut the charges by official documents that could not lie disclosed, be said without that authority ol the Imperial
Government. The Senate, however, rejected the move for the adjournment by 10 votes to 4,
Tire Maltese Parliament is now discussing the final stages of the Appropriation Bill, after which a dissolution is expected. The electoral campaign is already in full swing. The Nationalists are supposed by the majority of the clergy, and jliey are making the religious question the chief issue. This is producing the most hitter struggle in Maltese history.
