ATHLETE HONOURED
PRAISE AND GIFTS FOR GEORGE GOLDING. WELLINGTON, March 27. The Dominion tour made during the past eight weeks by the brilliant Australian athlete, George Golding, has ended and a farewell afternoon tea, arranged by the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Athletic Association, was given in his honour today. Air B|feW. McVill.v, president of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, said that Mr Golding had made a deep impression on everyone, noth on the athletic field and away from it. Golding was one of the best athletes who had ever come to this country.
The Mayor (Mr G. A. Troup) hoped that it would not bo long before Mi Golding returned to New Zealand. Mr H. Amos, of the N.Z.A.A.A. Council, also spoke appreciatively of the guest, and Mr Kitto, president of the 'Wellington centre, said that he had been a great acquisition to the sport throughtout New Zealand.
On behalf of the Centre Mr Kitto presented Mr Golding with a small gift to remind him, of his New Zealand tour, and as a mark of the Centre’s esteem. Mr Amos presented him with a travelling rug on behalf of the Wanga n u i-Ta ran ak i Cent re.
