Edward Patrick Coakley, a- farmer, of Spring Terrace, Cheviot, was killed as a result of his motor car leaving tlie road on Saturday evening when he was returning home along the Lemington Road. A largely attended meeting of Taumarunui farmers convened to discuss the menace of deer, passed a resolution that this representative meeting of farmers of Taumarunui district request the Department of Internal affairs to make strong representations to the conference of organisers interested in the control of deer in New* Zealand to be held on April 11 concerning the serious position that has arisen in this district by the destruction of turnip crops and pastures due to .the alarming increase in the herd in the district.
