An Economic of Empire lias been definitely set for September and the Canadian budget to be brought down shortly - will be drafted accordingly. It is not unlikely a plan will be launched for reaction against the increases of the United States tariff on Canadian produce, by offering a special trade inducement to other countries of the Empire. It is understood that amalgamation is pending of the Guaranty Trust, Bankers Trust and New York Trust Companies, with total reserves excluding three thousand millions dollars. There is no other recent combination so large. A LONG RACE. • MONTREAL, March 29. It is announced that a five hundred miles foot relay race for a purse of ten thousand dollars, open to runners of all countries will be held in the environs of Montreal beginning on 20 June. Teams of two men will be' units similarly to a six days bicycle race.
