A VIOLENT LOVER

JiROUGHT BEFORE MAGISTRATE. AUCKLAND, March 27. A man whose affection lor a city girl was not reciprocated and whose pursuit of her was carried to extremes received a sharp lesson on propriety when brought before Air F. K. Hunt. S.M., to-day. Charles Stuart Milne, aged thirty-on • years, was charged with assaulting another man in Queen Street yesterday and with molesting and threatening a voung woman, who therefore asked that lie be bound over to keep the peace. He pleaded not guilty to the assault charge. According to Senior Sergeant O’Grady, accused presisted in attempting to pay attentions to the young woman, following her about and interferring with her, though he received no encouragement. She became so worried that she asked the protection of her brother-in-law, who saw Milne. The assault then took place. Milne seemed to" have the idea that the girl was going to marry him. ‘‘it is hard to know what to do with him,” added the police officer, ‘‘because he does not know the girl. She has not kept company with him not has she been what you would call friendly with him.” Accused: Years ago I met her and she then gave me to understand that she had a liking for me. By her attitude I thought she had some time for me, hut now that I know she hasn’t I don’t want to see her again. The Magistrate: Don’t worry about that. You will not see her again. You are convicted and discharged on the assault charge, but you will have to find n surety of CIOD that you will keep the peace towards this girl or you will have to go to gaol.
