A message from Jefferson C’itv, M issouri, states that a short, hut violent riot was the climax to a 24 hours’ convict mutiny in the ancient ►State prison, when the guards, armed with clubs, and gits-" "'bombs, with machine guns in reserve, beat seven hundred and .fifty ifelons into submission in 45 minutes of fierce figlitingg. The convicts wllio complained of the food, rioted at luncheon. The guards, however, were prepared. The, guards sent 75 convicts to the hospital, with cracked heads. The guards escaped unscathed. westralian prisoners on STRIKE. FREMANTLE, March 28. Two hundred prisoners in Fremantle gaol are on strike, because they allege there is a shortage of food and tdbacoo. Throughout the night a noisy demonstration has been held. The “Red Flag” was sung with enthusiasm. Tin cans helped to increase the turmoil.
