THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES
FOOTBALL RULES. 'Hie iuteiestiiig question of the rules 7 of the game, which has engrossed the attention of Rugby enthusiasts in this country for some seasons past, is raised again in an acute form by the British visit. It is evident that a. vigorous attempt will be made in the South to induce or compel the various local unions to play only British rules, at least for this season. The reason given is that our men, to do themselves justice, must practise exclusively the i ules Under which the Tests will be played. This of course raises the further question whether the New Zealand rules do not give the sort of practice and produce the' kind of football that ought to make our men superior to all opponents in any kind of Rugby, no matter what rules are played in the Tests.
